Click here to see what to expect before, during and after an Initial Session or a Follow-up Session. Here are some reminders about preparing for a visit:
DO NOT SOAK your feet prior to a visit. Why? Soaking feet softens callused skin making it nearly impossible to differentiate between calluses and normal skin when debriding. This can lead to unnecessary removal of healthy tissue and increased risk of infection.
DO REMOVE NAIL POLISH before the footcare session. Why? Nail polish conceals the toe nail and nail bed making assessment of the health of your nail and toe impossible. Nail polish also damages the filing tools.
If you are unable to remove gel polish prior to the session appointment, we can only trim the nails, but will not be able to file them.
We DO NOT polish nails. Wearing nail polish can trap moisture under nail, which provides an environment for breeding and growth of fungus and bacteria.

Typically every 8 -12 weeks unless nails, corns, or calluses grow faster.
Podiatrists diagnose and treat conditions of the nails, skin, tendons, ligaments, and bones of the foot, ankle, and lower leg. They are able to prescribe medications for conditions and perform surgeries.
Foot care nurses are trained and qualified to provide nail and foot care to patients with complex medical conditions - i.e. DM, vascular insufficiency, neurological disorders, and nail or skin infections. We do not, however, diagnose or specifically treat those medical conditions. The foot care nurse will recommend referral to the podiatrist, primary care provider, neurologist, or vascular doctor when appropriate.

Can a nurse legally provide foot care?
Yes, foot care falls under the scope of practice of nurses. The extent is determined by each individual state's State Board of Nursing. Please refer to the rules and regulations governing nurses practicing in your state.

How is the service paid for?
This is a private pay service. Payment for services is due at the time of service and a receipt is given to the client and/ or caregiver. We do not invoice patients. Because routine foot services are not covered by most insurances, we do not bill Medicare or any insurance company.
If you would like to compare our costs with a podiatry visit, please contact your local podiatrist and insurance provider.
What kind of feet and nails do you care for?
We care for a variety of feet that may need extreme care for an initial visit as well as feet that simply require regular maintenance for optimal health and comfort.

Yes, we do. Depending on the patient's cognition, we may ask that a family member or a familiar caregiver be present. The family can assist with the patient's medical history and give consent for the service on behalf of the patient. Because the patient is familiar with their family member they can aid in keeping the patient calm and make this a pleasant service for the patient.
Yes, we do! This is one of our nurse's areas of expertise and passion because she firmly believes that clients with a history of diabetes should regularly seek proper foot care from a qualified foot care provider to prevent the risk of infections.
We would really appreciate the curtesy of prior notice as we prefer our schedule to be filled, but our nice foot care nurse does not charge for emergency cancellations. However, if a client cancels two consecutive appointments, he/she/they will be discharged as a client.

For a residential facility: Once we have agreed on terms of a contract allowing us to perform the services in your facility, appointments may be made easily either by:
an individual client within your facility; or
a staff member under supervision of a director who would like to coordinate a foot care day clinic by booking several, consecutive, private pay clients within the same day.
Then all we need is a small (preferably private) space to accommodate the client and footcare nurse, two chairs, a footrest, and stool. There must be an outlet available to recharge electrical tools. The nurse requires access to a sink for hand washing. Our nurse brings everything she needs to the facility to perform all services that have been scheduled.
